Whatever your project is, effective communication with your customers or future customers is essential both to advertise your products and services and also to provide information about your company or facility.
Many online editors allow all types of content creation quickly, easily, and free of charge. As entrepreneurs or freelancers, most of us cannot afford to hire professional graphic design services, and we are often forced to create our own designs.
This process, however, can be complicated if you have no insights into graphic design or if the tool used presents complexities. Also, the predesigned templates that you can find on the Internet are often very general and standard, so the final result is not customized to your needs.
Here are some tips and tricks that your team should take into account when designing your project’s communication pieces online!
1. Choose the correct format for your design.
Before you start, select the type of format you need. It is not the same to create an image for Instagram as for LinkedIn, for example. Most online editors have a wide range of sizes to choose from, so you won’t have to enter the measurements manually.
2. Use your brand corporate colors in all your creations.
The colors used will depend on the type of design and what you want to advertise. A party poster is not the same as an informative sign in which there are few colors (usually darker). However, we recommend that you always include the colors linked to your brand so that the user can quickly relate the design to your company. Also, you will create a more uniform brand image.
3. Insert images of your products or services.
Although you can use copyright-free images from the Internet for your creations, it is better to use your own images. If it is convenient, edit them with some effects, crop them, or modify their sizes.
4. Play with different fonts and sizes.
Use various text fonts and change the sizes depending on the importance you want to give to the written information. Many editors allow you to upload your fonts, so you can easily include them if convenient.
5. Make copies of the same design to create new ones.
Instead of creating a new design each time, create a single design that will serve as a template for others. It will allow you to save time and effort and will make all your designs have the same characteristics and your corporate image more unified.
6. Less is more.
Do not overload your design with unnecessary elements or text. The composition should be empty than that the person who sees it finds it overwhelming, so include only valuable information.
7. Add elements concerning what you want to communicate.
If you need to create designs for a specific date or reason, include details that make it easy to identify what it is. For example, if you need to create a business card, insert a phone or email icon to visually show what your contact information is.
8. Share your creations with your entire team.
Before you start creating your poster, banner, flyer, or another design format, determine with your team what kind of information you want to communicate and the tone used, as well as the purely visual aspects of the design. The creation process can be shared with other team members, so everyone’s opinions and perspectives will influence the final result.
9. Convey your personality and identity.
It is crucial to be consistent when designing and follow the same style that your company has. It means that if, for example, your project is characterized by the team members’ vitality and youthfulness, do not create a simple poster with dull colors. It is fundamental to convey at all times what you are!
10. Use pre-designed templates.
Of course, you can start creating your design from scratch, although it may take you a lot of time and effort to come up with a spectacular final result. Let’s be realistic… We already have a lot of daily work to do! Use pre-designed and editable templates to help you and modify them as much as you need.
A good platform to create your designs following the tips explained above is EDIT.org. It is a free graphic editor with customizable templates specifically created for small businesses (restaurants, product stores, etc.), institutions (such as schools and sports clubs), and work teams (coworking spaces, startups, offices, etc.). For these last ones, EDIT.org is useful as it is possible to share designs with other members and edit them together.
The editing process is simple, and at the end, you can download the final result in JPG, PNG, or PDF and save the creation in your user profile to continue editing at another time. Also, the editor is complemented by a blog with marketing and design articles for each particular sector or market niche. They contain tips, recommendations, and advice to get the most out of your designs.
Finally, we recommend using a content calendar to organize your social media posts if necessary. Creating spectacular designs without any specific objective or publishing them without following any guidelines will not give you good results. You must create an excellent strategy taking into account what you want to achieve with each of your designs.
So… we think that’s all! Start putting these tips into practice, and hopefully, your future creations will be worthy of an art exhibition!
